1. Start perineal massage

Not enough people really talk about perineal massage as much as they should. It focuses on the perineum, the soft tissue around your bits. We recommend starting from around 35 weeks, 3 to 4 times a week for 3 to 4 minutes. Something small you can do at home that your midwife will thank you for.

Our Peri Prep is included in the Mama to Be Gift Set, which is the perineal massage oil our midwives developed specifically for this.

2. Think about your birth preferences

Many pregnant people say they will just go with the flow. Your birth plan maps out and informs those caring for you about what matters to you and what you want during your birth and recovery.

Writing down your preferences gives you a voice in the room at a moment when you might not feel able to find one.

3. Consider colostrum harvesting

Colostrum is the breast milk your baby receives in the first few days after birth. Collecting and storing a small amount from around 37 weeks can be a great backup plan if your baby cannot or does not breastfeed well initially. Colostrum can be frozen, stored and defrosted when needed.

Our Colostrum Harvesting Kit has everything you need to get started.

4. Sort out your hospital bag

We recommend having your hospital bag packed and ready before 37 weeks. The best way to pack is to be pragmatic. Use a large weekend bag as your main bag and pack smaller bags inside it for labour, post-birth and your baby. Pack what you will need for a 24 hour stay first and keep it simple.

Spritz for Bits is included in the Mama to Be Gift Set and is one of the first things women reach for after birth.
