International Women’s Day is a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of women everywhere. As a midwife, I see the power of women in one of the most profound ways imaginable, the act of giving life.
Every day, I witness women navigating immense challenges, both physical and emotional, with courage that often goes unnoticed. From the expectant mother facing uncertainty, to the new mum learning the rhythms of life with a tiny human, to the woman reclaiming her body and identity after birth, the resilience is breathtaking.
Your mum created every. single. cell. of your body. The egg you were born from was created in your maternal grandmother. The baby you create already carries within her the next three generations to come. When we look at women through this lens, the threads of strength, love, and life across generations become almost tangible.
Women support women. Across cultures, generations, and communities, we pass down wisdom, care, and strength. As midwives, we are privileged to walk alongside women in these intimate moments, offering reassurance, advocacy, and respect.
This International Women’s Day, I want to honour not only the mothers I meet in the birthing room but all women, those shaping families, communities, and the world. Every act of courage, care, and compassion matters. Every woman’s story deserves to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
To the women who carry, create, nurture, and fight every day: thank you. Your strength inspires me, your courage humbles me, and your journeys remind me why supporting women is both a privilege and a responsibility.
