I was hoping for a water birth
What birth did you have?
I was in latent labour for nearly 4 days. I had pethadine and an epidural. My babies heart rate began to drop significantly so the doctor performed an episiotomy and my baby was delivered by forceps.
How was your recovery from birth?
I was very uncomfortable for weeks afterwards whilst healing and did have to get a prescription for movicol. I was also diagnosed with post natal depression. It did take me a while to be able to talk about the birth as I did find it quite traumatic, I had been awake for 4 days before the delivery so I think that was a contributing factor.
Do you have any advice or helpful hints or tips that we can share with parents to be?
You can have a plan A but be prepared that the plan can change quickly.
Take things from home that make you comfortable. For example clothes, shower gel. Don’t forget your phone charger!
Be prepared that if you are in latent labour for a long time try and do things that will distract you. But rest when you can, you need the energy.
