What number baby is this for you?
3

How long (ish) did it take to you to conceive?
This pregnancy was not planned.

Was it a natural conception or did you need fertility treatment?
Yes this was a natural conception.

Did you have any medical conditions prior to pregnancy?
Yes I have mild cerebral palsy, leaking heart valve and epilepsy.

Did you have any conditions that developed during your pregnancy (e.g.Pre-eclampsia, Gestational diabetes)?
No I did not develop any medical condition during my pregnancy.

Did you write birth plan? If so, what birth choices did you hope for?

No I never did as from my first experience of labour it went so quickly, I thought there was not much point for myself to write a birth plan for my other pregnancy journeys. The only thing I was adamant about was having my labour in a hospital setting I never considered a home birth due to my previous experience going into premature labour with my first born and always being under a consultant during my pregnancy with my second and third children.

What birth did you have?

A natural birth in my local hospital. Lead by a midwife who was accompanied by a trainee midwife. My son was born head first with a quick delivery.

How was your recovery from birth?
My recovery for myself was quick as I didn’t have any complications or needing any stitching as I did not tear/cut. We both needed to stay in hospital as my son was not feeding (breast) and he was making an unusual gurgling sound/coughing.

They originally thought due to a quick delivery the he may have just swallowed some fluids but as time went on the doctors believed he had an infection. They tried 2 lumbar punctures but both were unsuccessful so my son was then treated with 10 days of antibiotics for all infections as a precaution. I eventually managed to latch him on to breastfeed.

Do you have any advice or helpful hints or tips that we can share with parents to be?

I would always recommend taking professional medical advice from your midwife/ consultant but listen to your gut instinct if you ever feel something doesn’t feel right it is always best to get checked as I had reduce movement in my seconded pregnancy, when I went in to my maternity assessment I was already in established labour, with no contractions or other signs. Enjoy the journey and embrace the changes to your body it is a miracle we are able to grow a human inside of us!
